Come along to experience and learn about the Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota by attending their annual powwow, September 8-10 at St. Peters Church. Minnesota. Mdewakanton Dakota Tribal Communities, MMDTC is a non-profit organization whose mission is: “To preserve, protect, and promote the Dakota culture for future generations.” Each year they hold several programs and activities that focus on the preservation of Dakota culture. Their largest (and most costly) event is their annual Traditional Wacipi (Powwow). Last year their attendance reached an all-time high of an estimated 5,500 people!

“A Wacipi is a social gathering that focuses on traditional dance, song, and celebration. More than a tribute to a great ancestry, the Wacipi is a significant and culturally important event to the Native American Nations. We also honor our veterans every year.
